(Kerrville, TX)-On September 1, The Salvation Army of Kerrville will begin implementing a new assistance opportunity in Kerr, Kendall, Gillespie, Real, Edwards, Bandera and Kimble counties in conjunction with The Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing program.
Through The Salvation Army, the HPRP will assist individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless with the goal of rapidly transitioning program participants to housing stability, whether through their own means or links to community resources and mainstream benefits. Part of the program will also focus on assisting participants to develop a plan to prevent future instability.
The program will be sectioned into two phases. The first, homeless prevention will include financial assistance to families with children who are in rental based housing and in danger of becoming homeless within a two week period. The second, rapid re-housing will include financial assistance to re-house individuals and families with children who are homeless according to HUD’s definition. Priority will be given to individuals or families who are at the beginning of the homeless cycle.
Individuals seeking assistance through the HPRP will be able to apply beginning September 1, 2009 at The Salvation Army in Kerrville. Those requesting assistance through the program must be prepared to meet with an HPRP caseworker for an initial consultation to determine eligibility.
Applications and eligibility criteria information are available at The Salvation Army Social Service Office located at 855 Hays Street in Kerrville.
Applications will be accepted through August 2010, or as long as funding is available.
