The Salvation Army of Austin is blessed with the talented women from the Junior League of Austin! From 2019-2020, a group of Junior League volunteers will dedicate their time to our Craft ‘n Create program at our emergency shelters.
Craft ‘n Create gives children living in our shelter the opportunity to leave their family room, make a craft, and experience a fun environment. Creating a normal environment is critical to children experiencing trauma, like homelessness. Junior League volunteers engage kids living in our shelter during a fun or educational weekly activity and our children always look forward to these activities every week! Through the process, volunteers have the opportunity to impact the lives of the families with children living at our shelter and provide essential support to our staff.
Junior League volunteers will lead Craft ‘n Create activities at the Austin Shelter for Women and Children. After the opening of The Salvation Rathgeber Center in Fall 2019, the Craft N’ Create program will be expanded to the Rathgeber Center, a newly constructed 212 bed emergency shelter facility for families with children experiencing homelessness.
We thank the Junior League of Austin for continuing this program and putting a smile on a child’s face!
