The Salvation Army serves holiday meals for hundreds of our neighbors in need at the downtown shelter and social services center. Our Thanksgiving and Christmas meals are open to all who are hungry.
More about The Salvation Army Emergency Shelter and Meal Program
When a person or family arrives at one of our emergency shelters, our first priority is to meet their immediate needs for safety, food, medical care and crisis intervention. Shelter is a place of safety and hope for our clients. We are the primary provider of shelter and basic needs services for women and children who are experiencing homelessness in the Austin area.
Last year we served more than 400,000 meals to our hungry neighbors. Our daily afternoon meal is Austin’s largest congregate meal service where anyone in the community can come for a hot meal, 365 days a year.
Once the basic needs for shelter and food are met, The Salvation Army provides on-site supportive services and collaborative programs that link clients to permanent housing opportunities to help move them from crisis to stability.
