The Salvation Army Responding to Bastrop Fires

AUSTIN, TX (October 15) – Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Service teams in the Texas Division have been deployed to provide assistance to Bastrop County. On Thursday, two Salvation Army teams were deployed to Bastrop County where a wild fire has consumed 4,200 acres, destroyed 9 homes, and is threatening an additional 150 residences. The Williamson County canteen and Bryan College Station Rapid Response Unit are working to support first responders battling to control the blaze that is expected to grow in the coming days due to the very dry conditions in Central Texas.

Disaster teams will be providing meals and hydration to firefighters, other first responders and survivors through our mobile canteen and mobile response unit. Earlier in the week the Williamson County canteen served 30 firefighters at a blaze in Taylor that, fortunately, was quickly contained.
