The Salvation Army Rathgeber Center is a 212 bed shelter and will be a safe-haven for families in Travis and Williamson counties experiencing homelessness. On average, The Salvation Army has nearly 200 women and children on their wait list for shelter at the Austin Shelter for Women and Children. In 2018, The Salvation Army sheltered 1,938 men, women and children, and has provided more than 141,901 meals for individuals and families in Austin. The new shelter will increase the current budget by 5.2 million dollars a year to be fully operational. Funding is vital in order to fully staff and run all necessary programs at this brand-new shelter.
