We Shelter
Your donation will help support individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness in our community. The Salvation Army is the largest provided of shelter in Austin. We operate three shelters in Austin: the Downtown Shelter and Social Services Center (242-beds), the Austin Shelter for Women and Children (91-beds), and The Rathgeber Center for Families (212-beds).
We work with clients to link them to long-term housing opportunities. Clients, while they are working on their self-sufficiency goals with their assigned case manager, have the option of staying in residence between thirty to ninety days. We are here to help meet their needs so they can learn to meet their own. The services we provide are comprehensive and we work with every member of the family. We provide individual and family therapy as well as groups. We have outings and activities in the evening, and an on-site licensed teacher for tutoring and enrichment activities.
We are all one crisis away from needing a helping hand. The people we serve are daughters, sons, mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, neighbors, teachers, business owners and friends that have experienced that crisis, and now they need the HAND UP that we can provide.
Inspired by our Christian mission, we offer the resources and support to lift up our neighbors in crisis. As the largest provider of emergency shelter in Central Texas, annually we serve more than 10,000 men, women, and children with shelter, addiction rehabilitation, clothing, meals, holiday support, and direct client assistance. We case manage hundreds from crisis to stability and self-sufficiency.
