Thanksgiving and Christmas Feasts

Feed our Families - Thanksgiving meal volunteer

The Salvation Army serves holiday meals for hundreds of our neighbors in need at the downtown shelter and social services center. Our Thanksgiving and Christmas meals are open to all who are hungry in the general public.

More about The Salvation Army Emergency Shelter  Program

When a person or family arrives at one of our three emergency shelters, our first priority is to meet their immediate needs for safety, meals, medical care and crisis intervention. Shelter is a place of safety and hope for our clients. We currently operate three shelters in the Austin area:  The Downtown Shelter and Social Services Center; The Austin Shelter for Women and Children; and The Rathgeber Center for Families.

Once the basic needs for shelter and food are met, The Salvation Army provides on-site supportive services and collaborative programs that link clients to permanent housing opportunities to help move them from crisis to stability.
