The Salvation Army’s USA National brand promise is “Doing The Most Good.” We are best known for the Red Kettles and Angel Tree programs at Christmas, Family Store donations and pick-up scheduling information, and perhaps our work during time of disaster.
However, what many people do not realize is that the very motivation for “Doing The Most Good” behind every service, program, and ministry of The Salvation Army, is the love of God. At its heart, The Salvation Army is a Christian church with its sleeves rolled up, providing worship services and programs for those in crisis and need.

The Salvation Army is one of the world’s largest faith-based charities. From its very inception, The Salvation Army adopted a quasi-military structure, being rooted in the militaristic spirit prevalent in the mid-1800s when William and Catherine Booth found the organization, originally established in London England in 1865. The Salvation Army in Austin, Texas was formed in February 1889, and since then the Army has been helping people in our community for more than 133 years. The Salvation Army Austin, serving Travis and Williamson counties, is the largest non-profit provider of family shelter in Central Texas, offering many different programs and services that range from shelter, meals, and support services to families experiencing homelessness, to supporting communities in our area, and all over the United States after natural disasters.
Inspired by our Christian mission, we offer the resources and support to lift up our neighbors in crisis. As the largest non-profit provider of family emergency shelter in Central Texas, annually we serve more than 10,000 people with shelter, addiction rehabilitation, clothing, meals, holiday support, and direct client assistance. Each year we successfully case manage hundreds from crisis to stability and self-sufficiency.

While we often accept vehicles in any condition – running or not – due to differing regulations and other considerations, not all types of vehicles are accepted at all locations, so it’s best to contact us first. Your donations could be the tool to change the life of a neighbor/Central Texan in recovery.
The Salvation Army is not a physical army in the military sense, but rather a global army of people moved to humanitarian action through faith. This organizational style has proven effective in making the Army a highly disciplined and mobile organization, able to respond quickly and efficiently to human need whenever and wherever it arises.
Salvation Army Officers hold the ranks for Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lt. Colonel, Colonel, Commissioner, and our International Leader, the General. Church members are called Soldiers, being easily identified by their navy blue uniforms, and we refer to our churches as Corps. Our Area Commander and Citadel Officers are ordained pastors and leaders of our Area Command and Citadel Corps.
The Salvation Army is a Christian ministry that provides services to anyone regardless of religion or beliefs. We are called to serve in Christ’s name without discrimination and value each person as God’s creation who are loved beyond measure.
Members of The Salvation Army include:
