Explore a variety of opportunities to impact the lives of families and children experiencing homelessness in Central Texas.

Family-Focused Programs

Year-Round Shelter

The Salvation Army Austin operates two family shelters: The Rathgeber Center for Families and The Austin Shelter for Women and Children. Register for an in-person, educational tour of our facilities and choose to support families experiencing homelessness in Central Texas.

Show Up:

Schedule a tour! Join us for an educational walk-through of our facility and learn everything you need to know about our program and services.

Be a part of various in-person opportunities with our families living in shelter. There is tutoring, birthday parties, gardening, story time, and so much more!
Our staff wants to offer as many resources to our clients as possible! If you or your group have a talent, idea, or service that would benefit our families, please contact [email protected] to bring your services to our clients today.

Shop our amazon wish lists using the QR code below to see how you can contribute to our client's experience living in shelter by purchasing urgent and specific needs.

Sponsor:

Sponsor a family! Provide the funds to support a family living in shelter and follow them through to self-sufficiency!
Sponsor a room! Provide the funds to support a room at our shelter for a full year to ensure multiple families receive a safe space during their experience in our program.

Angel Tree Program - Fall & Winter

This program provides thousands of children in Central Texas with Christmas Gifts. Be the reason a family feels peace this holiday season by fulfill the wishes and needs of children in your community.

Corporate Opportunities

Volunteer:

You and your team can be the reason holiday joy is spread to families this year! Volunteer your time together at our warehouse to help organize, inventory, sort and distribute Christmas gifts for thousands of children in our shelter and surrounding communities.

Group Volunteer Shifts

Adopt:

Host an Angel Tree in your office! We will supply you a Christmas Tree decorated with toy tags for our angels. Each tag features one child and a list of their wishes and needs. Host the tree in your office or building and encourage everyone to "adopt" an angel off the tree and fulfill that child's Christmas wishes!
Do you work virtually or in a hybrid environment? Your team can still adopt together through our virtual adoption option.

Come together with your group, team, or organization to host a general toy drive that will go to supplying 8,000+ children in our community with gifts to open on Christmas day!
Don't have the time to volunteer or host this year? Your monetary support has a lasting impact as it enables gifts to give to more angels this year and fill any gaps that are missing.

Individual Opportunities

Volunteer:

Be the reason a family receives support from our Angel Tree program! Join us at our main office and help approve the 1,000+ Angel Tree applications submitted from families in need in our community!

Individual Volunteer Shifts

Adopt:

Visit our website or the Angel Trees placed at malls near you to "adopt" an angel and fulfill the wishes and needs of a child in your community.

Back To School Drive - Summer

Uplift the students in your area that need it the most! Equip the children in our shelter and surrounding communities with the school supplies they need to ensure they are just as confident and prepared to start their semester as any other student.

Sponsor:

Be a program leader! Rally your company, church, or organization to host a school supply drive together or donate monetarily for supplies.

Shop our Amazon Wish Lists to directly donate and know exactly what each child needs and what every grade level expects.

Volunteer:

Organize and distribute the supplies we receive from our donors! We receive hundreds of donations and would love to come together with you to pack the backpacks with the proper supplies for each child.

Events and Campaigns

Red Kettles and Bell Ringing - Winter

Our famous Red Kettles and joyful Bell Ringers are the defining part of The Salvation Army's holiday season. By being a part of the Kettles program, you and your team can directly impact families and children entering our shelters.

Your monetary support could change the trajectory of a family's life in Central Texas. All funds stay local and support our services that help families reach self-sufficiency.

Sponsor a Kettle and Ring the Bells:

Come together with your organization, group, and church to sponsor a kettle at one of our various locations. Match all donations received by the bell ringers at your location throughout the whole season!
Adopt a full day! Choose one day at one of our various locations and encourage your team to cover all of the shifts. Double your team's impact by committing to a company match for the funds your raise on your day.

Doing Most Good Luncheon - Fall

Join us at our main event and biggest fundraiser of the year! This is an opportunity for us to thank our partners and continue to spread the word about our long-term mission to end the cycle of family homelessness.
