Volunteer With Us

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for The Salvation Army! The Austin area has thousands of non-profits and we are glad you chose to volunteer with us. Our dedicated team of volunteers play a key role in The Salvation Army’s goal to provide support and the very best social services, to give aid wherever and whenever needed.

You must have an interest in giving back to the community, and be willing and able to work as part of a great team of other volunteers and staff members. Your time and commitment are essential to the success of our organization.

We are unable to provide court mandated or attorney recommended community service.

HOLIDAY SUPPORT

The holiday season is our busiest time of year. Between our Angel Tree program and famous Red Kettles, there is no shortage of opportunities to support The Salvation Army. You can make an impact on the lives of Central Texas families in need this winter by volunteering with us!

From September to December, staff and volunteers work thousands of hours at our warehouse in South Austin. Volunteers sort, organize, and inventory Christmas gifts. Group and individual shifts are available. Volunteer opportunities include workday, evening, and weekend shifts.

You can also become a volunteer bell ringer and help raise funds to support our programs for families experiencing homelessness. This runs from Thanksgiving - Christmas Eve.

Holiday Support Interest

SHELTER & SERVICE CENTER SUPPORT

The Salvation Army Austin offers opportunities year-round where you can share your time and get involved in our family shelters and/or service center. If you are interested in becoming a regular volunteer at our shelters or service center, follow the steps below.

1. Create a volunteer profile. The information requested is thorough, but necessary for the safety of our clients.

2. Sign-up to receive a background check and Safe from Harm training. Regular volunteers at our shelter and service center must pass a background check and go through our Safe from Harm training before working directly with our clients.

Once you have completed these steps, our volunteer coordinator will reach out to you!

MORE OPPORTUNITIES

We also have needs that arise throughout the year, for one-time support. These activities do not require a background check or Safe from Harm training, because you will not work directly with our clients. If you are interested in one-time support shifts, you can browse current opportunities and register on the page embedded below.
