University of Texas Athletes visit The Rathgeber Center for Families
On Tuesday, April 9th, six UT football players came to visit our family shelters!
Their goal: to meet and spend time with client families—particularly the children. The football players made fast friends with the children in our shelters, playing football, basketball, and soccer. They taught the kids useful (and fun!) tips and tricks they’ve learned from their time playing football at The University of Texas at Austin. After playing catch, dribbling basketballs, and scrimmaging a few quick games, everyone was tired out, and went back inside to share stories and play board games. The children gave the athletes a run for their money at Monopoly and Candyland, but the competition was all friendly--you could hear cheers and laughs echoing far down the halls of the shelter throughout the evening. Finally, when the athletes had to go, they left the kids with something to remember them by—signatures on their footballs, and pictures with their families.
We are so grateful UT’s athletes took time out of their evening to spread joy to the families living in our shelters! If you are interested in volunteering, please email [email protected] to learn more.
